Half an hour from Kutaisi, the nature of western Georgia shows two completely different faces: the emerald Martvili Canyon, explored by rowboat between sheer cliffs and cascading waterfalls, and Prometheus Cave, a karst system roughly 60 million years old with an underground lake. Martvili Canyon

Over thousands of years, the Abasha River carved a narrow limestone canyon with turquoise water, overhanging cliffs, and small waterfalls. The main activity is a 15-20-minute rowboat ride along the canyon, and those who want to cool off can swim in a designated area below the main viewing platform. Nearby stands the old Martvili Monastery, which gave the site its name.

Prometheus Cave (Kumistavi Cave)

Discovered in 1984, this cave system stretches over 1 km, with about 6 chambers set up for visitors. Inside you'll find stalactites and stalagmites of varying ages, an underground lake you cross by boat at the end of the walk, and artistic lighting that highlights the shapes of the limestone.

On the Way: Sataplia Nature Reserve

Often added as a third stop — this reserve is known for fossilized dinosaur footprints roughly 120 million years old and its own small karst cave with a lake. A good addition if you have an extra hour to spare.
